Ever since joining H2USA earlier this year, Hyundai's endeavors to bring hydrogen refueling infrastructure stateside has been steadily gaining ground. Last month, we told you why the South Korean automaker has placed such an emphasis on H2 fuel cells. So, how is Hyundai doing with their pledge to build fueling stations?

Pretty well, actually. With a little bit of help from the California Energy Commission (CEC), Hyundai has procured a $3 million grant to build a 100 percent renewable hydrogen refueling station in San Bernardino.

Set to be located at the Hyundai American Technical Center, the contract with the CEC stipulates that the station has to be in operation by October 2014. A doable goal indeed, especially considering that Hyundai plans to have 1,000 H2 fuel cell autos on the road in that state by around the same time.

The South Korean automaker's hydrogen version of the Tucson should be available stateside at some point in the next couple years. At the moment, at least 20 of these cars are in operation with the city of Copenhagen, Denmark as a test run for fuel cell operations in that country.
