A powertrain warranty covers the most expensive parts of the vehicle that ensure the motion of the vehicle. These parts include the engine, driveshaft, and transmission. A powertrain warranty repairs and replaces when either of the parts mentioned are damaged.

The powertrain warranty has the most extended coverage. A bumper-to-bumper warranty insures everything in between the jumpers. It takes care of most car system repairs and replacements. A bumper-to-bumper warranty has a shorter coverage compared to the powertrain warranty while at the same time having the advantage of covering more vehicle parts than the powertrain.

The bumper-to-bumper coverage is more expensive to purchase as it covers more car parts. However, the bumper-to-bumper warranty does not cover brake pads, shock pads wear and tear, scheduled maintenance, windshield and its components, tire and wheels, and interior trims. In reality, a powertrain warranty is designed to cater only to the power-train, usually a car’s most extensive and most expensive component.
