When your check engine light comes on, you know it's not a good sign. It isn't always the worst news, but you will never know, unless you take care of the problem--and quick. Even if you are not mechanically inclined, you can utilize a code reader that will tell you exactly what the problem is. It's a handy tool to have. Don't confuse your check engine light with your service engine sensor either. Your service beacon is just a friendly reminder that you need to get your oil changed.
Most times, whatever trips your sensor is not major; it might just be a loose gas cap, or a faulty spark plug wire. It is often an oxygen sensor, which helps to adjust the air-fuel mixture or the catalytic converter. Or it could be the mass air flow sensor. It usually doesn't mean that your engine is about to blow.
